I wanted to create a painting that felt quiet and intimate. The woman is looking down with her eyes closed, almost lost in her own thoughts. I’ve used cool blues, lilacs and soft neutral tones across her skin, with the darker hair creating quite a strong contrast.
The flowers bring another softness to the painting and sit almost like she is holding onto them. I like the way the blue outlines and loose brushwork give parts of the painting a slightly unfinished, expressive feel, rather than making everything too perfect.
For me, the painting is really about a quiet moment of reflection and femininity. I wanted it to feel calm, slightly melancholic and beautiful without being overly complicated.
